Fiat displays 500 subcompact at the Detroit Auto Show 01/25/2011
Italian automaker Fiat brought its first production model in years to the Detroit Auto Show to promote the Fiat 500 subcompact, which is expected to hit the U.S. market later this year, reports Torque News.
The manual transmission version of the 2011 Fiat 500 will begin being sold sometime next month, with the automatic transmission version expected to hit showrooms in the nation's 130 Fiat dealerships in March or April.
To promote the upcoming vehicle, Fiat set up a booth at the auto show in Detroit featuring an espresso bar and several versions of the 500. The display includes vehicles featuring all three trim levels - Sport, Pop and Lounge - of the new car.
In addition to the standard 500s on display, the booth also features a red Fiat 500 Sport and a vintage 500 from the 1970s. The stand also includes a blue and black 500 with aftermarket additions made by Chrysler's Mopar division. The "Moparized" car includes custom wheels, a cold air intake and a rear snowboard rack.
