Dodge Avenger vs Toyota Camry 04/13/2011
The Dodge Avenger is not the best-known model in the country, but that doesn't mean it doesn't offer drivers something of value. With a close price point to the high-selling Toyota Camry, we compared the two vehicles to see which was better.
The Avenger is cheaper, priced at $19,245 compared to the Camry at $19,820. Chrylser backs the Avenger with a 5 year/100,000 mile warranty, which beats Toyota's 5 year/60,000 mile powertrain pledge.
Under the hood is very close between the two vehicles. The difference in horsepower and torque is negligible: the Avenger boasts 173 hp and 166 lb-ft, while the Camry produces 169 hp and 167 lb-ft. One big difference, however, is the Avenger's automatic transmission, as the Camry only comes with a manual on the base model.
Both of these cars are very sparse when it comes to interiors. However, Dodge is a bit better in this regard as it allows options to be added on a la carte, while the Camry forces buyers into more expensive trim levels.
In the end, the Avenger is cheaper, comes with an automatic transmission and allows for easier upgrades to the interior - making it the surprise winner.
