Dodge Avenger vs Suzuki Kizashi 04/11/2011
Suzuki has become well known for making affordable vehicles designed to compete with some of the more popular models in a given segment. The Suzuki Kizashi, aimed at the midsize sedan market, continues that tradition. We compared the vehicle with the Dodge Avenger to see which offered drivers more for their money.
The Kizashi is the cheaper of the two, retailing for $19,000. Dodge prices the Avenger, meanwhile, at $19,245. Both automakers offer a 100,000 mile powertrain warranty, but Dodge's only lasts for five years while Suzuki's runs for seven.
Performance is very close between the two cars, as the Kizashi produces 185 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque, beating out the Avenger's 173 horsepower and 166 lb-ft. Fuel economy is about even, but Dodge holds the edge for transmission. The Kizashi is equipped with a manual on the base model, while the Avenger comes with an automatic.
For features, we give the edge to Suzuki, as it comes with keyless ignition and climate control. That said, all of the Kizashi's extra features are only available on higher trim levels, which are expensive. The Avenger allows for a la carte options to be added on the base model.
In the end, we think the Dodge's automatic transmission ultimately makes it the better value, as equipping the automatic on the Kizashi drives the price up to nearly $21,000. However, those who don't mind a stick shift will find good value in the Kizashi.
