The 64th biennial International Motor Show is coming up this September in Frankfurt, Germany, and Audi just announced its plans to build a $14.3 million indoor racetrack for the event. The German carmaker previously shared its display with Volkswagen, but it will strike out on its own this year, in effort to compete with Mercedes-Benz and BMW, Bloomberg reports.
Audi will begin building its indoor track in July and it will be completed within days of the exhibition's opening on September 13. Car enthusiasts will be able to ride in 12 different vehicles, including racecars, on the 328-foot track.
The Frankfurt International Motor Show is the largest in the world, and has been showcasing innovations in the automotive industry since 1897, according to CarsDirect.com. There are more than 10 different exhibition halls and many car companies from around the world choose this venue to unveil concepts for future cars as well as new cars that are getting ready to hit the commercial market. More than 2,000 exhibitors and 10 million guests are expected to attend the 11-day event, according to BiztradeShows.com.
