Chrysler impresses with sales gains 05/06/2011
Chrysler has announced some impressive sales figures for the month of April as the American automotive group continues to improve after struggling mightily during the economic recession.
In total, the Chrysler Group posted a 22 percent year-on-year gain for April, which gave the company its best April totals since 2008, before the recession was in full swing. The company was led by extremely strong sales for the Jeep brand, which saw a 65 percent gain over a year ago.
The automaker has made a point of redesigning several of its major models this year, and the new cars appear to be paying off for the group. The Jeep Grand Cherokee saw sales jump 189 percent year-on-year, while the Compass was up 181 percent.
Other new models also sold strongly for Chrysler. The redesigned 200, star of the company's Super Bowl ad, saw a 23 percent increase in sales. Another midsize sedan in Chrysler's lineup, the Dodge Avenger, was up 26 percent.
"Both our retail car and truck sales were up significantly in April as we continued to build upon our sales growth momentum on the heels of a solid first quarter," said Fred Diaz, Lead Executive for U.S. Sales.
