Chrysler 300 SRT-8 vs Audi A6 04/14/2011
The Chrysler 300 is typically priced to compete as an entry-level luxury sedan, but the automaker offers a performance package that puts its price higher into the luxury range. We decided to test the 300's SRT-8 trim level against an industry stalwart, the Audi A6, to see which offered the better value.
The 300 SRT-8 retails for $44,865, while the A6 is offered at $45,200. Chrysler backs its model with a 5 year/100,000 mile warranty, while Audi's powertrain pledge only lasts for 4 years/50,000 miles.
Chrysler's model is all about performance, and it really shows in the numbers. Drivers will enjoy a V8 engine producing 425 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. The A6 gets 265 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque. Even if a driver opts to add nearly $15,000 on to the price of the A6 for a V8 engine, it still doesn't crack 400 in either category. It's worth noting, however, that the A6 does enjoy 21/30 miles per gallon, a big step up from the 300's abysmal 13/19.
With such a gulf in performance, one would assume that the A6 would have a much nicer interior, but that's not really the case. It features Bluetooth, an iPod hookup, navigation and HD radio all standard. Yet the 300 features heated power seats and parking assistance, only available as options on the A6.
In the end, the difference is clear, and the 300 SRT-8 wins out.
