Chevy sparks excitement with introduction of its first minicar 08/11/2011
General Motors recently announced that the Chevrolet Spark will finally be making its way to American shores. The subcompact car is the smallest car in Chevy's lineup, and its addition will give the American catalog a full spectrum of sizes to choose from.

"Spark minicar will give Chevrolet A-B-C-D-E segment coverage for the first time in the U.S.," Jon Laird, a GM spokesman wrote on Twitter.

The new car is about three inches shorter than the Mini Cooper, but it still manages to seat five without feeling cramped, according to Automobile Magazine. It is already available in Europe, South Africa and Asia with two choices for an inline-four engine that get 67 or 80 horsepower. The manual transmission version gets about 46 miles per gallon on the highway.

According to the news source, rumors are circulating that the American version will be given a moderately more powerful engine that has a slightly less impressive fuel economy of 40 mpg.

HowStuffWorks.com suggest that the price tag of the little car will be less than half that of the $40,000 Chevy Volt, and it should be arriving to dealerships in the first half of 2012 as a 2013 model.
