Cars may start getting more miles to the gallon 05/12/2011
Drivers have been biting their nails every time they head to the pump, as they come to the realization that the gas crisis is only getting worse. As a result, many of us are getting rid of our large, gas-guzzling SUVs in favor of compact cars that have a greater fuel economy. Automakers are noticing the shift in gas prices too, as analysts have said that there's a danger that they could grow past $5 a gallon if things keep going the way that they do.

While there are a number of fuel efficient vehicles available on the market, particularly either hybrids or electric cars, automotive manufacturers are looking to take it one step further by offering more cars that can have you going the distance without multiple dents in the wallet.

Motor Trend Magazine is reporting that help is on the way for potential consumers who are looking for a high fuel economy but do not want to commit to a hybrid or electric vehicle. Some people have been turned off by the thought of an electric vehicle because of their need to frequently charge (although some cities are hopping on board with free charge stations).

The news provider reports that there will be six new offerings on the auto market that are 40 mpg. These include the Ford 2.0-liter Focus SE, Volkswagen Passat, Smart ForTwo, Ford Fiesta SFE, Hyundai Elantra and the Chevrolet Cruze Eco.

However, commuters may want to also think about the newest kinds of electric vehicles, as Auto Blog reports that Ford is working with Google to provide the Prediction API, which will alert the driver on the most efficient route they should take, saving time and gas.
