Cadillac Escalade Platinum vs Range Rover 03/30/2011
The Cadillac Escalade and Range Rover are two of the pricier SUVs that money can buy, so luxury shoppers looking for a big vehicle will probably end up choosing between the two at one point. It's not really fair to compare the base models of both vehicles because the Escalade is so much cheaper, so we chose the Platinum trim level on the Escalade so that they were in the same price range.
The Escalade Platinum retails for $82,290, while the base version of the Range Rover comes in at $78,835. Drivers get the better warranty with the Escalade at 5 years/100,000 miles compared to the Range Rover's 4 years/50,000 miles.
Cadillac's large V8 engine is ultimately superior to the Range Rover's as it cranks out 403 horsepower and 417 lb-ft of torque compared to 375 hp and 375 lb-ft of its competitor. Fuel economy is pretty abysmal on both vehicles, although the Escalade is rated 2 mpgs better in the city.
The interiors of both cars are tricked out. The Range Rover boasts a premium sound system and keyless ignition, while the Escalade features rear-seat DVD entertainment and OnStar. Both vehicles sport a bevy of other features like parking assist and dual climate control as well.
Ultimately, we feel that the Range Rover doesn't sacrifice too much power but comes in a bit cheaper, making it the better value. However, those who aren't willing to spend this much on a vehicle may be interested in some of the Escalade's cheaper trim levels.
