Cadillac DTS vs Lincoln Town Car 01/20/2011
Those in the market for a luxury vehicle typically flock to offerings from the Japanese or German brands, but domestic automakers have high-end marques as well. For those who want to "buy American" but still retain that sense of luxury, the Cadillac DTS and Lincoln Town Car are two strong options to consider.
The DTS starts at $46,680, while the Lincoln Town Car Signature Edition comes in at a similar price point of $46,925. The two vehicles have a notable difference in their powertrain warranties. We tend to think Lincoln's is the better deal, as its 6 years or 70,000 miles provides an extra year of coverage compared to the DTS' 5 years or 100,000 miles. Since drivers aren't likely to be clocking 20,000 miles a year, it's tough to take advantage of the extra distance that GM offers.
Despite this minor shortfall, the DTS does offer a bit more in terms of performance, outclassing the Town Car in both horsepower and torque. With 275 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque on the DTS, Lincoln drivers will have to be content with 239 hp and 287 lb-ft of torque.
Inside, the DTS comes with OnStar and satellite radio standard, although both of those require costly monthly subscriptions. Meanwhile, the Town Car has some nice features that the Cadillac doesn't, like parking assist and heated front seats.
It's close, but in the end, the DTS' cheaper price and increased performance make it the better value.
