Bentley releases details of new V8 engine 02/09/2011
After unveiling the redesigned Continental GT in September of last year, luxury automaker Bentley has released details on a new V8 engine that will increase the brand's accessibility to consumers, reports Car Throttle.
The new Continental GT reportedly was a very successful model for Bentley following its introduction in 2003, helping to lift the brand's sales in the years following its release. Consequently, when the new car was announced last year, the company reportedly minimized the changes it made to the vehicle.
One of the most important departures from precedent, however, was the announcement that the new car would include a V8 engine option this year, and Bentley has finally released details on how that engine will perform.
Two different V8 options will reportedly be available. The single turbocharged version of the V8 engine will produce 415 horsepower, while the twin turbocharged version produces 555. This latter figure falls just shy of the 567 horsepower produced by the current W12 engine.
According to the source, the 4.0-liter V8 engines will help reduce the price tag on the Continental GT, making it more affordable than the higher-end Mulsanne.
