BMW will be releasing 700 vehicles as a test run 04/20/2011
With more automakers are looking to offer fuel-efficient vehicles during a time where gas prices are climbing up, BMW announced that it will be releasing a new electric coupe.

PC Magazine reports that the company announced its intentions for the new vehicle, which will be called the BMW ActiveE. BMW has plans to lease 700 of these models, with lessees paying $499 a month after a $2,250 down payment. Residents in New York City, San Francisco, San Diego, Boston and Los Angeles will be able to reserve their trials this fall.

"Based on the 1 Series Coupe, the BMW ActiveE will accelerate from 0-60 mph in under nine seconds, making it the first electric vehicle to combine the dynamic characteristics typical of a BMW with the zero-emissions benefits of driving an electric vehicle," BMW said in a press release.

AutoWeek reports that the car is the second all-electric trial, as the first all-eletric vehicle, known as the i3, will hit the American market in 2013, as it's designed for residents of major cities.
