Audi S5 vs Chevrolet Corvette 04/01/2011
A coupé is meant to be a beautiful power with lots of power and high-speed capabilities, but it still needs to run flawlessly in terms of handling. So when comparing the Audi S5 against the Chevrolet Corvette, who comes out on top?
The Audi S5 is a bit more expensive with a retail price of $53,650, but it's marketed about $500 cheaper than its true value, according to Edmunds. While the Corvette only costs approximately $49k, it's worth about $46k.
Under the hood of the Audi S5 is a 4.2-liter engine with V-8 cylinders that offers up 354 horsepower and 325 ft-lbs of torque. It has poor fuel economy with 14 mpg city/22 mpg highway and only takes premium unleaded.
Despite costing less, the Corvette gets way more power than the S5, with a 6.2-liter V-8 engine, 430 horses, 424 ft-lbs of torque. Fuel economy is better too, averaging two mpgs more while driving in the city and four mpgs on the highway.
So why exactly is the Audi so much more if it doesn't pack the bigger punch? With more space, a power sunroof and heated seats, price tags are bound to rise. That doesn't make it better than the stylish Corvette though, which is the ultimate coupé sports car, and the winner in this comparison.
