Audi Q5 vs Acura MDX 11/30/2010
The luxury crossover market is becoming increasingly crowded, as automakers are finding that Americans are hungry for larger vehicles outfitted with all the extras. The Audi Q5 and Acura MDX are two midsize crossovers from separate continents, but they're quite close in terms of price with the MDX at $42,580 and the Q5 just $80 cheaper.

So what do drivers get for $80? For starters, the MDX seats 7 as opposed to 5. It also gets 30 more horsepower (300 to 270) and 27 more lb-ft of torque (270 to 243).

The Q5 isn't a total loser, however. The interior and features are a substantial upgrade over the MDX. The Audi's 10 speakers outclass the MDX's 7 and contains a USB plug for MP3 players and similar devices. The Audi has modern-day crash assists like a blind spot warning system and parking sensors. Drivers will also likely appreciate the Q5's extra 2 mpg on both city and highway. The Q5 is a bit lighter, although the MDX's roominess means it's a bit roomier.

Despite this, it's not enough for the Q5 to overtake the MDX. The extra performance and seats for just $80 more are enough to give the MDX the edge over the Q5 in terms of value.
