An experimental band changes up the Fortwo 03/17/2011
Apparently, disco isn't dead - at least not as far as Smart is concerned. The German car company recently launched its newest automobile called the Smart Discoball at the Neue Nationalgalerie - a modern art museum in Berlin.

The car was inspired by the classic 1970 blockbuster "Saturday Night Fever," starring John Travolta and featuring music by the legendary disco group, the Bee Gees.

The automobile was designed by Apparatjik, an experimental band (which includes members from Coldplay, a-ha and Mew) that covered a Smart Fortwo Electric Drive in mirrors, making it appear like a large disco ball. In addition, the Discoball will be featured in an upcoming movie called "Pixel City," according to Edmunds Inside Line.

Consumers can currently purchase the Smart Fortwo which is powered by a 1.0-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine that can generate 70 hp at 5,800 rpm and 68 lb-ft of torque at 4,500 rpm. The vehicle can achieve between 33 city and 41 highway miles per gallon and can reach 37 miles per hour from rest in 6.5 seconds. The car's top speed is 62 miles per hour.
