A release date for the high-performance luxury line has yet to be announced 07/15/2010
Japanese automaker Nissan's luxury line Infiniti has often struggled against more established competitors in the sector like BMW, Lexus and Audi. Yet the brand may soon be finding a new home where its unique mixture of luxury and style will set it apart from the competition in its class, as the Automotive News is reporting that Nissan will soon release a race-inspired high performance addition to its Infiniti line.
In a recent speech meant to debunk the rumors of the new M Coupe, Infiniti announced plans to debut the forthcoming line of luxurious speedsters at the Pebble Beach Councours d'Elegance later this year.
Adding credence to the claim is a recent trademark filing from Infiniti of America for both "IPL" and "Infiniti Performance Lineup." In the filing, the company claimed that the IPL distinction would be used to label vehicles that utilize high-performance vehicle parts and engines including turbochargers, cat-back exhaust systems, high-flow mufflers, shifter knobs and sports seats.
Earlier in the year, Nissan announced its intentions to downsize the engines used in its Infiniti line without losing power, suggesting that high-performance parts might become more standard equipment on the vehicle in the future.
