2012 Dodge Charger SRT8 debuts in Chicago 02/10/2011
Detroit-based automaker Chrysler has unveiled the new 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8 at the ongoing Chicago Auto Show, reports Autoweek.

The 2012 Charger SRT8, which is slated to hit the market sometime this fall, features an upgraded engine from the base version of the sports sedan. The Hemi V8 engine gets an upgrade to 6.4 liters while producing 465 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque.

New exterior styling details give the car a more aggressive look than the base version. The 2012 Charger SRT8 features a grille with blacked-out sections, 20-inch wheels and a domed hood scoop. Inside the car, changes include reinforced seats, a flat-bottomed steering wheel and a center screen on the dashboard that displays zero-to-60 acceleration time and lateral g-forces.

The new car also includes several innovations intended to improve its fuel economy, including the use of an active exhaust feature and the ability to conserve fuel by using only four of the engine's eight cylinders. In total, fuel economy is expected to increase by 15 percent in the city and 26 percent on the highway.
